Does the colder weather make you feel invigorated?
A lot of people say that the brisk fall weather makes them feel more awake, more aware, like their blood sings. And while it's true that there are those who don't enjoy the cold at all, there is something to the claims about colder temperatures.
With the rise in people studying wellness and longevity, came the increasingly mainstream habits of doing cold plunges/swims and other practices such as snow yoga. Originally cold water therapies were centred more around the benefits for athletes and as military/rescue practices, but now it seems that it is a great idea for pretty much anyone who wants to get rid of inflammation, brain fog, depression and a host of other issues. The cold extremes are said to jolt our immune system, and shock us into a state of aliveness and clarity that isn't found anywhere else.
The advice is generally to start with moderately cold, short duration bursts, building up to colder, longer exposures. One of the easiest ways to begin is just to end your shower with a bit of cold and gradually increase the length while decreasing the amount of hot water mixed in. Another great way to add some cold at this time of year is to get outdoors. As little as 30 seconds a day can help things start to shift in the right direction!
